How old is the Club?
NHYC was founded in 1916. Please refer to the history section for more information about how the club was started.
Do you offer sailing lessons?
NHYC does not offer adult sailing lessons. Orange Coast College School of Sailing and Seamanship is a great local resource.
NHYC offers sailing lessons for children provided they are a Junior member or a member’s dependant. Refer to the Junior Sailing section for more information about the programs offered.
Do you rent boats?
No
Can I host a private party at NHYC?
NHYC is not open to the public. Only members can make arrangements for private parties.
What is the dress code?
Members have always been careful to respect each other’s feelings with respect to dress in the clubhouse. These guidelines represent a balance between accepted social customs and the realities of life in an active yacht racing organization.
Member’s dress is dictated by whatever is appropriate to the occasion. Clean, casual attire is optional for the main dining room; however dress usually becomes more formal later in the day. Shorts are not allowed in the main dining room after 1700 hours. The main dining room will not turn away hungry sailors in neat sailing attire who find themselves stranded without appropriate dress (if the Pirate’s Den is full).
Swimsuits and wet clothing shall not be worn inside the Clubhouse except en route to and in the locker rooms. Shirts and shoes must be worn at all times when in the Clubhouse.
Where can I park?
NHYC has a parking lot for its members and guests only. For most large events, valet parking will be offered. Un-metered street parking is available around the club. In the summer months, parking is at a premium and carpooling or finding alternative methods of transportation is suggested.
RV’s and campers are not permitted in the parking lot.
Are reservations required?
Members and their guests are requested to make reservations for the Main Dinning room during all meal services, please contact to Front Desk.
Seating in the Pirate’s Den and Main Deck (seasonal) is available on a first come, first serve basis.
Certain Club-wide events may declare a “cancellation policy in effect.” When this policy is in effect, reservation shall be cancelled no less than 48 hours prior to the event or 100% of the full amount per person will be charged.
