New bumpers for 2010

In team racing there is a lot of talk about the close course tactics, rapid maneuvers, and quick reaction times.  Well, as we all know in sailboat racing things don’t always go as planned.  Over the past year Warren Duncan and John Whitney have worked to engineer  custom fit fenders for the bows and sterns of the H20 to protect them from any accidents.   A company in RI that specializes in bumpers made the final product.  This was the next step in NHYC’s commitment to H20 team racing.

NHYC Team Selection

A sail-off will be held March 27-28 for interested skippers hoping to earn a spot on the NHYC Baldwin Cup Team.  This regatta will be a random pairs 2 v 2 team race.  Click here to download the Notice of Race.  Entry deadline, March 22. For more information please contact the NHYC Race Office.

April 9 - 11, 2010 NHYC will host 9 yacht clubs for the 3rd Annual Invitational Team Race for the Baldwin M. Baldwin Cup.  This email is part 2 of 6 part series geared at informing the membership about this exciting event.
Part 1: What is Team Racing?

NHYC CAMARADERIE

Marking its 3 year anniversary, this regatta is gaining national popularity; we had to turn away several interested clubs from participating.  What makes this regatta so special is the tremendous support that our membership provides, and the army of volunteers who offer to help.

As you may remember about this regatta from the past, the mooring field is vacated and the racing is directly in front of the main dock. The Corinthian cooperation of the mooring leasees in clearing the mooring field results in one of the most spectacular sailing venues that many competitive sailors have seen.  Thank you in advance for all that make this possible.

Once again, the Harbor 20 Fleet has enthusiastically and generously provided their privately owned boats to help make this event possible. We know what you are thinking…”H20’s for a national level regatta? How is that possible?” As long as all the boats are the same, team racing can be the most enjoyable sailing around.  The H20 continues to be the boat of choice for this format of team racing as evident in overwhelming response from clubs across the country wanting to compete.  Thank you H20 owners, we could not have this regatta without your support.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

T-minus 4 weeks!  Regatta plans are moving forward smoothly but the organizing committee still needs your help. As you can imagine putting together a regatta of this caliber and complexity requires a large number of volunteers.
If you can help or would like more information about any of the jobs listed below, please contact Jenn Lancaster in the NHYC Race Office.  Thank you in advance!

Dock space - Do you have open space at your dock to accommodate an evacuated boat from the mooring field?

Housing – Can you help by hosting a visiting adult sailor?  NHYC member hospitality sets us above the rest and the committee is still looking for a few more beds.

Building/ Tear-down Temp docks -  We are expanding the main dock to accommodate the all the sailors and spectators!  Everyone wants to be where all the action take place right?  We have borrowed some of the modular plastic dock from OCC, but it needs to be built… it goes together just like legos.

Race Committee – get the best view of all the action.  Alan Carmichael will be the PRO and is looking for a few good men and women to join the team.  No experience necessary, we can train you!
