Located on the picturesque Balboa peninsula in Southern California, NHYC enjoys a long-standing and wonderful yachting tradition. Our mission is to provide a physical and social environment for our members and families to pursue and perpetuate the highest ideals of yachting, yacht racing, and sportsmanship; to assure regional, national, and international leadership in sport.
UNIVERSAL RECOGNITION
NHYC has a very long and well-established reputation in competitive sailing nationally and internationally, with one Olympiad going to Tokyo in summer 2021. The foundation for this global recognition can be found in a very active Jr. Sailing Program that goes back for generations.
A Respected Membership
To provide a physical and social environment for our members and families to pursue and to perpetuate the highest ideas of yachting, yacht racing and sportsmanship; to assure regional, national and international leadership in the sport.
Excellence in Amenities and Facilities
Upon turning 100 years, NHYC membership decided to tear down the existing clubhouse and rebuild the new clubhouse, opening our world-class facility in October 2018. We also completely renovated our two boatyards, beachfront sand and furniture, along with new beach restrooms and showers.
Moonstone Cove and mooring field serve as the club's long time private outpost on Catalina Island, with 40 some odd moorings and a beautiful sheltered cove with full showers, restrooms and a complete outdoor galley with BBQs.
We are once again positioned for our next 100 year journey.
Exceptional Service Standards
This vision and mission statement kind of sums up what our team of professionals is all about. Like the newly opened facility, our team complements the blending of our veteran staff and new number 1 draft picks which doubled our staff to help inspire unprecedented experiences whereby creating tomorrow's memories today!
Adapting to Changing Times
Navigating through the COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated directly how we can conquer challenges and emerge even stronger. We confronted it directly, surpassing the expectations for our members and staff. This serves as clear evidence of our resilience and success.
Management and Operations
We are genuinely a member-driven club and not a member-managed club with personal agendas. The G.M/C.O.O. reports directly to the Board of Directors, which has a Policy & Procedure Committee as an oversight. These complementing committees provide additional support and continuity to the club and general membership. Our committees are Finance & Audit, House, Membership, Mooring & Docks, Yacht Racing Council and Junior Sailing Advisory.
All committees meet monthly.
THE OVERALL EXPERIENCE
From the time we tore down the old facility to the time we reopened the new and through the first two years of operation, we did not lose one member or staff person. That should bode well for maintaining and building upon time-honored traditions while continuing in creating tomorrow's fond memories today!
